Alumni Association of Gansu makes contributions to public welfare, setting up CA-Jinlin Country Library

On Sep.5th, one of the serial cultural activities Jinlin cultural forum and the opening of CA-Jinlin Country Library hosted by Jilin Public Welfare Foundation and CA technologies was underway in Wuwei City. Yang Jinlin, who was the founder of Jilin Public Welfare Foundations, the alumna of XMU from the Department of History, the famous media worker and the charitarian, Pan Shimo, who was the initiator of Jilin Public Welfare Foundations, vice chairman of the alumni association and the former executive deputy president of XMU, Chen Guangming, general manager China of CA technologies, Feng Renqiang, the alumna of XMU from the Department of Law and the deputy mayor of Wuwei and other relevant leaders and some representatives of Wuwei city One plus one Welfare Association(WOA) attended the activity. As the special cooperative partner, Xiamen University Alumni Association of Gansu was invited to be present. Secretary General Wang Zixiao, Deputy Secretary General Li Ning and the alumni representative took part in the ceremony.

 

Jinlin Public Welfare Foundations was initiated by Mr. Yang Jinlin and Mr. Pan Shimo. The Project “Reading in Country” is the first civil public welfare project themed with reading. The project aims at inviting some institutes and individuals who dedicate themselves to public welfare in the country and career about civil culture. By setting up country library, hosting serial lectures and other various activities, staff of the foundations devote themselves to creating a bond between cities and countries, giving back to the society with abundant cultural resources. From 2012, the project has been set up in Wuping in Fujian, Deqing and Chun’an in Zhejiang and Zhongning in Ningxia, and more than 5000 students have been benefited from it.

 

At present, there are 325 primary school students and junior school students in Xidatan Village. Because of the difficult situation, the school library faces several problems, for example, the books are out of date, the genres are few and the library is too small. Given that, CA-Jinlin Country Library has built an over-100-meter comprehensive reading room, providing 20 standard bookcase and over 3000 books at the same time for the first stage, as well as the software for book arrangement. To make the library a platform for reading culture communication in the country, there are over 30 biographies and over 20 books dealing with Tibetan culture among the 3000 books. Xiamen University Alumni Association of Gansu donates first batch of books worthy RMB3000. Besides, great gratitude should be given to the alumni Xu Xuejun for his timely help.

 

Yang Jinlin and Feng Renqiang expressed their many thanks to XMUAA of Gansu. Furthermore, Pan Shimo stated that the alumni association played an active part in this activity. It was a significant beginning for this newly founded alumni association. Apart from Ningxia and Inner Mongolia, there were a Xiamen University Alumni Association in every province, and it would be a strong support to Jinlin Public Welfare Foundations.

 

In the coordination of Feng Renqiang, Nan Xingheng, executive deputy chairman of Xiamen University Alumni Association of Gansu and Bu Fei, general secretary of Jinlin Public Welfare Association made an agreement. First, plan to initiate welfare project of improving students’ life together, including help orphans continue the study and collect cotton quilts. Second, plan to carry out long-lasting teaching work in rural areas together. XMUAA of Gansu will keep following up the projects in Xidatan Village and their brother projects.
