The inaugural ceremony of Xiamen University Zou Zhizhuang Economics Education Fund and Zou Zhizhuang Economic Research Center was held successfully on December 4. Xiamen University Americas Alumni Association Education Foundation had played an active role in helping money flow into the school and it was highly appreciated by school leaders and Zou Zhizhuang couple.
According to the United States duty-free policy, professor Zou’s donation can only enter the school via foundations and other non-profit organizations and school leaders attached great importance to this. Li Jianfa, deputy secretary of Party Committee and vice president of Xiamen University and Zhan Xinli, vice president of Xiamen University and vice president of the General Alumni Association, together with departments like secretariat of the General Alumni Association and Education Development Foundation held a meeting with heads of Americas Alumni Association Education Foundation in order to coordinate some specific issues. Alumni in Americas also took active actions. Fu Zhidong, chairman of Americas Alumni Association and some warm-hearty alumni flew to San Francisco to report the work to the foundation initiator--93-year-old Ge Wenxun. The foundation treasurer, Ding Junqi also paid a special visit to Zou Zhizhuang couple’s home and negotiated the remitting process with them in detail.
Since the establishment of Americas Alumni Association Education Foundation in 1984, it has been actively raising education fund to help school development. Apart from helping to restore Tan Kah-kee Scholarship in the early days, the foundation has invested in holding international conferences and academic exchanges and in building microcomputer room in the school library. At present, it finances lots of scholarships and grants of our school such as Sa Bendong Scholarship, Sa Huangshushen Undergraduate Scholarship, Ziqiang Scholarship, Zeng Yushan Grant and Ruan Kangcheng Scholarship, making great contributions to the development of the school.
