On the afternoon of December 31st, 2014, the forum attended by over 30 grade liaisons of Grade 1977 and 1978 was held in Huanxian Building. Wang Haojie, chairman of the XMU general alumni association and former secretary of the school party committee, Pan Shimo, vice chairman of the alumni association and former managing vice president, Zhan Xinli, vice president of XMU and vice chairman of the alumni association, Liao Yixin, vice chairman of the alumni association, and Shi Huixia, deputy secretary general of the alumni association. The forum was hosted by Zeng Guobin, secretary general of the alumni association.
The forum was kicked off with the video which introduces the alumni activities held by XMU alumni association in different places, retrospecting many wonderful moments.
Zhan Xinli introduced the development of XMU in recent years, especially the development of alumni scholarship and alumni mentor program. She hoped to listen to alumni’s advice and encourage alumni to support the construction and development of alma mater through this forum.
Wang Haojie, made a passionate speech. He said that alumni are the most precious, loyal and irreplaceable fortune of alma mater. He recollected the 30th anniversary meeting attended by over 1600 alumni held by XMU seven years ago, which still inspired him very much. In recent years, with the support of the university and alumni, the general alumni association set up “Home to Alumni” coffee house, make alumni card for them, open WeChat Official Account “XMUers” and realize the gull coverage of alumni associations in every province, which are widely acknowledged by alumni and enhance their sense of identity and belonging to alma mater.
Pan Shimo introduced the new method and development of alumni activties in different places around the country in recent years. He expected the alumni association not only to continue traditional alumni work in districts, grades and disciplines but also to advance with the time to put forward new ideas and measures in serving local places and contributing to the society.
In order to serve alumni of Grade 1977 and 1978, before the forum, the general alumni association made alumni card in big batches. In the forum, Wang Haojie, Pan Shimo and Liao Yixin presented alumni cards to alumni.
Alumni of Grade 1977 and 1978 are the earliest postgraduates after the resumption of university entrance examination and the first beneficiaries of it, who bore the special print of Chinese educational history. Having graduated for over 30 years, many people have become the backbone of the society and the main force to construct the country, playing important roles in all walks of life and making distinguished achievements.
