On the morning of Dec. 25, 2016, the annual meeting of the XMU Alumni Association of Fuzhou (XMUAAF) and the New Year 2017 Party opened with much fanfare in Fujian Provincial Party School. This event is hosted by XMUAAF, organized by the branch of foreign languages majors of XMUAAF and co-organized by the Branch of Chinese and art majors of XMUAAF. XMU Party Secretary Zhangyan attended the jolly event at invitation.
The meeting kicked off with a heartwarming video entitled “Flowers blossom in Fuzhou, yet my beloved alma mater blooms in my heart: The record of events of 2016 of XMU Alumni Association of Fuzhou”. Then, Mr. Ye Wenzhen, Chairman of XMUAAF delivered an annual work report. Following that, Mr. Zhang Xiaoping, the ex-inspector of Fujian Provincial Department of Finance, addressed the attendees on behalf of the senior members of alumni. And Ms. Yu Lingying, representative of the young alumni, also gave her speech.
Zhang Yan, on behalf of XMU, extended his hearty congratulations to the successful opening of the annual meeting and expressed his best wishes for all the alumni studying, working and living in Fuzhou. He noted that XMUAAF, as an organization set up earlier than other branches of XMU alumni association, has carried out a host of meaningful activities so far to serve the alumni, the alma mater, as well as the society; and the annual meetings, brimming with positive vibes, have renewed and revived the XMU's spirit. For instance, to celebrate the 95th anniversary of XMU, XMUAAF organized and staged a splendid gala show exclusively for all the XMU alumni, which turned out to be a smash hit with lots of teachers, students and alumni and has become a prime example of alumni events in the eyes of other China’s universities and colleges.
“Although you have left the campus, you always keep your alma mater in mind.” Zhang said in his speech. He pointed out that the construction and development of XMU have always been the alumni’s concern. He told the alumni attendees that XMU is now laying out its development plan for the next year, and will conscientiously keep alive the spirit of the National Educational Work Conference on the Values and Beliefs of the College Students of China and will take initiative to bring about a complete makeover for our school in the days to come. He said that XMU will stick to its commitment to nurture talents of both ability and integrity, stay on the route of open and flexible school-running, hold fast to the development strategy that aims to go global, keep pace with the construction of a “New Fujian” and will make every effort to contribute to our country’s “One Belt One Road” initiative.
