In order to further implement the strategy of empowering the university through brain gain and to attract the best minds to Xiamen University, XMU Vice President Yang Bin led a delegation to Britain and Ireland and held special job fairs in the Imperial College, University of Cambridge, Cardiff University and University College Dublin during February 19-24.

At the early stage of the recruitment, XMU has done massive amount of work to publicize its policy of personnel engagement and the overseas job fairs through a wide range of channels including the XMU alumni associations abroad, and the websites of the education offices of China's foreign embassies and consulates, overseas Chinese schools, as well as the network medias at home and abroad. As a result, a large number of professional talents were attracted to attend the fairs. The recruiting scene was lively with participants, with whom the XMU recruiting team held direct face-to-face talks and gave answers to specific questions concerning the disciplinary development, human resource policy and living conditions of Xiamen University, and some preliminary agreements have been reached on the scene. After the recruitment, the Department of Personnel as well as varied colleges of XMU would keep in touch with the prospective applicants and provide one-on-one follow-up consulting services.

During the job fairs, Yang Bin exchanged in-depth views on enhancing talent cooperation with Lei Fengyun, the general representative of China Association for International Exchange of Personnel Representative Office in the UK, expecting that the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China could offer more support to the talent recruitment of Xiamen University. Yang Bin also reached consensus with Cordon Chesterman, Director of Cambridge University Employment Center, with regard to the talent recruitment cooperation mechanism and internship program. Meanwhile, he also engaged in pragmatic and fruitful talks with Dolores O’Riordan, Vice-president of Dublin City University, as regards establishing postdoctoral cooperation project, strengthening joint research and increasing reciprocal visits.

In 2017, XMU will continue to expand and explore new channels to attract more competent and professional talents by the following three steps: First, proactively push for "inviting in", second, urge and encourage "going out"; third, strengthen publicity and promotion. At present, Xiamen University has posted recruitment advertisements on the official websites of more than ten Chinese embassies and consulates in such countries as the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.
