"7681 Conjecture" dialogue in memory of Chen Jingrun 84 years birthday was held successfully in the concert hall of Xiamen University Science and Art Center on the night of May 22. Faculties, students and alumni of Xiamen University and some entrepreneurs participated in this dialogue to carry forward the spirit of Jingrun and to talk about the enduring love and cultural heritage between "a University and a Master".
Zhan Xinli, vice president of Xiamen University, vice president of the General Alumni Association of Xiamen University addressed the event. She said the "spirit of science", one of the "Four Spirits of Xiamen University", represented by Wang Yanan and Chen Jingrun was valuable wealth left by history precipitation and that dialogue would help alumni, students, and faculties of Xiamen University to honor the memory of Mr. Chen Jingrun and to inherit the "Fours Spirit of Xiamen University". She mentioned that she saw volunteers of Xiamen University promote the culture of our school with practical actions during her visit to Confucius Institute in Africa and she took this as an example to call on every member of Xiamen University to take up the responsibility to spread Chinese culture and to carry forward the spirit of Xiamen University wherever they were.
Mr Chen's wife, Mrs. Youkun could not attend the event due to health reason but she specially commissioned madam Song Ling, relative of Chen Jingrun to read letter of thanks. Mrs. Youkun said the essence of Jingrun spirit was the spirit of dedication, of sincerity, and of artisans. She sincerely hoped that members of Xiamen University to carry forward the spirit of Jingrun and keep going onwards and upwards in work and life with the spirit of Xiamen University.
The first theme of dialogue centered on Chen Jingrun and his scientific spirit. Xu Mo, professor Lin Yanan, professor Li Xiaohong, Chen Jingrun’s relatives Song Ling, and Chen Zhidong were the guest speakers of the first part. Xu Mo is an alumnus of Xiamen University, chief supervisor of Xiamen Alumni Association, original member of Standing Committee, secretary, vice mayor, and vice chairman of CPPCC of Xiamen, current president of Fujian branch of China Overseas Development Association. Lin Ya’nan is dean of School of Mathematics Science. Li Xiaohong is associate dean of College of Humanities. And Chen Zhidong plays Chen Jingrun in "Goldbach's Conjecture".
The first dialogue provided audiences with a new awareness of Chen and the scientific spirit represented by him. The second theme of the dialogue proceeded this further and centered on the culture of Xiamen University to cultivate masters. Pan Shijian, Yao Ming, professor Fu Xiaofan, professor Zhao Bei, and Chen Qiqi came to the stage to share their own feelings of Xiamen University with audiences. Pan Shijian is the original vice mayor and vice chairman of CPPCC of Xiamen, current president of Xiamen Education Foundation. Yao Ming is president of Xiamen Alumni Association. Fu Xiaofan and Zhao Bei are professors from School of Management. And Chen Qiqi is president of Xiamen Association of Women Entrepreneurs.
The dialogue was interspersed with reading--"a University and a Master". Peng Lu, president of the Xiamen Recitation Society firstly recited classic clip of reportage; a group of Xiamen University students then recited "the Ode to graduates"; at last, some actors and creators preformed the classic part of "Goldbach's Conjecture".
