Professor Ge Wenxun who studied in Electrical Engineering Department in 1942 and his wife Madam Ge Chenhuifang donated $50,000 and set up "Ge Wenhai, Hong Gewenxing" Scholarship during the 96 anniversary of Xiamen University. This scholarship annually awards one student from Institute of Education and one student from College of Humanities $1,000.
Ge Wenxun couple love the alma mater and pay close attention to the development and construction of it. Senior Ge is also one of the main founders of the Americas Alumni Association. In 1984, he not only helped establish the Americas Alumni Association, but also helped set up Americas Alumni Association Education Foundation. He expanded fund-raising channels to promote school development. In 1998, he, together with seniors like He Yici, Shao Jianyin and Su Linhua, initiated to set up Sa Bendong Education and Scientific Research Foundation and Sa Bendong MEMS Research Center of Xiamen University.
Ge Wenxun has always attached importance to humanities education and the cultivation of students' humanities quality. So he donated and set up this scholarship, hoping that it could encourage young students who studied in humanities such as education, Chinese, and history to make persistent efforts and that it could promote students’ development and thus support the school’s development. This scholarship is named after Ge Wenxun’s elder brother Ge Wenhai and his elder sister Ge Wenxing in acknowledgement of their upbringing.
Ge Wenxun was born in Fujian in 1923 and graduated from Electrical Engineering Department of Xiamen University in 1946. Awarded Tan Kah-kee Scholarship twice in Changting, he was one of the most favorite students of Sa Bendong. Ge is an internationally-known micro-electronics expert who used to be president of the first and second International Sensor Society and director of Microbiology Laboratory of National Institutes of Health.
