In the morning of 6th April, Xiamen University launched the 97th anniversary assembly, during which there were ten alumni donations. A one-million donation by Mrs. Xu, on behalf of her deceased husband the alumnus Yixiong Lin who had studied in the department of biology and graduated from Xiamen University in 1956, was one of them.

The one million derived from the only estate property the old couple had possessed in Beijing. On 1st, April, the 86-year-old Mrs. Xu traveled a long journey to Xiamen and with the million she founded a foundation in the school of life sciences, Xiamen University, in honor of Mr. Lin. Mrs. Xu said that her husband entertained a deep love for Xiamen University and he had always been grateful to his teachers in Xiamen University. “This donation was his dream, now it is finally realized.” When asked if she had any expectations for the pupils, she replied, “Life science is an all-encompassing science. There are still many mysteries waiting for us to explore. I am an educator. I just do a little bit of what I can do. I hope this donation can help young people observe more, think more, and discover more mysteries of life sciences.”
