Academician Tian Zhongqun, Director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials and a professor from the XMU College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, has recently been honored with the ACS Award in Spectrochemical Analysis for his outstanding contribution in the field of Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) and optical spectroscopy. The award ceremony is to be held in Philadelphia, USA, in August, 2017.

The ACS Award in Spectrochemical Analysis, established in 1987, is annually granted to only one recipient across the globe whose research work has made a significant impact on the fields of SERS and optimal spectroscopy. In addition, Prof. Tian Zhongqun is so far the one and only Asian scientist who has ever received this global award. Prof. Tian and his team are best known not only for their commitment to the “feet-on-the-ground” research in such fields as the surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, spectro-electrochemistry, and nanochemistry, but also for their pioneering work on the development of a portable and fast sample pretreatment apparatus for food safety detection. This great honor not only represents the recognition from the international spectroscopy academic society towards Prof. Tian Zhongqun, but also reflects the weighty role of Xiamen University within the realm of spectroscopy across the world.
