Alumnus and Academician Xie Yi Wins the Title of “Top Ten National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Workers”

A few days ago, members’ day of China Association for science and technology and recognition conference was held in Great Hall of the People. In the meeting, the award of “Top Ten National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Workers” was presented, academician Xie Yi, alumnus of XMU, was also included in it.

Xie Yi, alumnus of Grade 1988 graduated from the Department of Chemistry. On December 19th, 2013, she was selected as academician of the chemistry department of Chinese Academy of Sciences, becoming the first female Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor in the field of chemistry of Ministry of Education, the only female innovation group leader of Department of Chemistry of National Natural Science Foundation, the first overseas Chinese scientist who earned the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Award for outstanding female by IUPAC. Xie is now the professor of College of Chemistry and Materials of University of Science and Technology of China, professor of Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale, chief scientist of national synchrotron radiation laboratory and Committee Member of Committee of Social Science. She is also a member of the Dalton Transactions international advisory board of Royal Society of Chemistry, a member of the Chem International Advisory Editorial Board, and an editorial board member of Chemistry Central Journal and Journal of Inorganic Chemistry. She mainly works on the study of preparation, structure, theory and performance of Inorganic solid functional materials.

“National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Workers” is known to be the award set for scientific and technical workers by China Association for Science and Technology in 1997, who love country, strive for realism and innovation, struggle and dedicate, cooperate with others, obey scientific morality and make great achievements and distinguished contribution in natural science, engineering technology and relevant areas. The “National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Workers”is selected every two years since 2010. Less than 1000 workers win this title and “Top Ten National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Workers”are selected in them, which is a lifelong honor.
