On October 1, on the occasion of the sixty-eighth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Confucius Institute at Mah Fah Luang University (hereafter referred to as the Institute) established its alumni association in Chiang Rai. Among those attending were Pan Jin, vice Consul-General of China’s ambassador to Chiang Rai, Vanchai Sirichana, president of Mah Fah Luang University, Lai Hongkai, deputy Party secretary and secretary of Commission for Discipline Inspection of XMU, Zeng Guobin, secretary of the general alumni association and Geng Hu, deputy director of the office of the Confucius Institute attended this activity. During the activity, the Confucius Institute at Mah Fah Luang University assisted the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Rai in successfully organizing a touring show to send their best regards to the overseas Chinese in northern Thailand.
On behalf of XMU, Lai Hongkai offered his warmest congratulations on the establishment of the alumni association. Then he reviewed the Institute’s great contributions and outstanding achievements in multiple areas such as Chinese language teaching, cultural communication, promoting exchanges between two universities and strengthening friendship between Thailand and China. He pointed out that the establishment of the alumni association has blazed a new trail in organizing the alumni in the joint school-running mode, which is conducive to the communication between the two universities, helps to deepen the cooperation and friendship between the two sides and facilitates the development of the alumni affairs of XMU as well as its Confucius Institutes across the world.
The Confucius Institute at Mah Fah Luang University is the first Confucius Institute jointly constructed by XMU and a foreign university. With a history of 11 years, the Institute has trained more than 36,000 students. The establishment of the Alumni Association of the Institute will expand the proportion of XMU’s alumni in Thailand and shall go a long way towards the development of XMU’s overseas alumni affairs.
